An attractive pub in a gorgeous location with an excellent choice for vegetarians and well labelled menu.  Not good for vegans.

The location of the Royal Oak makes it worth the trip by itself with stunning views over the water facing on to Hayling Island.  But the pub also has a welcoming atmosphere, with comfortable seating arranged in series of smaller rooms.  The vegetarian offering is excellent.  We had Garlic Mushrooms and Bruschetta to start, followed by a Vegetable Tatin and a Wenslydale Salad.  We rounded off with a rich Chocolate Tart.  All the food was thoughtfully presented with a good selection of vegetables in our main courses, the tatin achieved the right balance between roast vegetables and pastry.  The website includes a comprehensive information sheet about the contents of their dishes displaying a great deal of thought and care for those with special dietary needs.  It's just a shame there isn't a couple of vegan dishes on the menu which would actually be easy to do.
